About...
For over 25 years, Sergei V. Chernikov has been crafting masterpieces that transcend mere artistry, delving into the soul of his subjects. From a young age, his passion for diverse artistic expressions has shaped his journey, culminating in his expertise as a portrait artist. Chernikov eloquently captures the essence of humanity, stating: "The true challenge and allure of painting people lie in the dynamic expressions that unveil their inner worlds." He perceives a portrait not as a simple depiction of features, but as a profound narrative of character woven into the fabric of outward appearance. His work, while strikingly realistic, remains a testament to the art of painting, distinct and evocative, never to be mistaken for a photograph.

Chernikov's process starts with a three-hour session to connect with the subject and capture reference photos. While he can work from existing images, he prefers to take his own. He can also include pets, additional figures or personal mementos to enrich the portrait's narrative.
Following this initial meeting, he retreats to his studio in the Chicago area, where he typically takes two to four months to complete the portrait. During this time, the client receives regular digital image updates via email.

Chernikov primarily works in oils but also enjoys creating pastel and charcoal portraits. Beyond portraiture, he thrives in still lifes, which he sees as storytelling pieces that highlight the bond between nature and humanity, capturing life's beauty in taste, color, form and scent.
